They look comfy, but don't fit me so well either physically or in style. I do have a style, and tend toward Nordstrom and Anthropologie--mostly when things are on sale. I would probably pass by a JJill Outlet store. Just me.

Why does any store or clothing line or style have to meant for a specific age group or body type? Clothing, designers, and style are all different and unique. It is about what makes you comfortable, style is celebrating who you are. I have friends in their twenties and thirties who shop J Jill, and they are all different body types. J Jill fits their personalities and makes them comfortable. I also have friends in their late fifties who shop The Buckle and wear Miss Me jeans and tee shirts, it is how they wish you celebrate life and their individual personalities. I am forty three and have a very Bohemian type style, I shop at Free People, Anthropologie,and Vintage Shops. I have tried the tailored clothing, dress pants and jackets and everyone tells me that style is not just who I am, I am a free spirit and so the long flowy dress with layers and big jewelry is what works. Love your self and your own style. Do not worry about the age thing that says you can only shop here if...... Now I am not saying if your over 30 to rush out and go all Hollister on us and wear little tiny skirts and midriffs. If your 20 and love Coldwater Creek shop there, you will look amazing and beautiful because you will be comfortable with yourself.

JJill started as in independent in New England (maybe NH?) and then was sold to Talbots. Rumored Talbots may be trying to unload it.
Quality is generally good; I'm hard on my clothes & these hold up till I accidently splash bleach or kids' grape juice.... There's a range of sizes. Also possible to get jeans & cords that don't have HUGE hips which hang off me (I'm not lean, but this is a problem with other brands, like Banana).Less conventional (or MIL) than Talbots has been.

I find that Talbot's has nice work clothes. I always get compliments on things that I brought from there. Not everything there is my taste, you have to pick and choose, but there are some really nice well made things.

I love Anthropologie! They are super cute but pricey also. If you are near to it, Loehmans in Friendshp has some suprisingly cute stuff. F21 is almost like "disposable" clothing.
Also, Zara is really cute. But unfortunately seems to be more for sknny btches but their tops sort of fit me.

J.Jill is owned by Talbots. It is for the woman with an artistic sensibility (paraphrasing their brand statement).
More loose, flowy clothes, with a "romantic" look.

If you think Talbots is frumpy, check out their web site. I think you'll be surprised. It's not Prada, but it's contemporary and their pieces have always been high-quality. I bought a fabulous necklace there this spring and all my friends thought it was from Anthropologie.

I have a 29 year old friend who shops at Forever 21, and I think she looks nice. I'm reminded that when I was her age, their branding/ image put me off... and I already considered myself too old. But then I see she's able to choose perfectly pleasant, generally on-trend casual pieces that aren't so different from the pieces I buy myself, though I pay a lot more.

J. Jill is definitely a nice easy casual store. Talbots is work casual.

I have to say, if you want trendy and cheap give Forever 21 a try...I am not joking
