Tell me you don’t run a small business without telling me you don’t run a small business. Swipe fees are a lot and if you’re running on tight margins, it really hurts. My parents ran a small business and known their experience I always carry cash for small shops, especially for small purchases. Home contractors also don’t want to deal with that and it adds more overhead to them. Heck, pay cash at a gas station and it will quite often get you a discount, and gas pumps are one of the big places where your card gets skimmed. I still have checks, but I don’t carry them around with me. If I think a place is not going to take a card, I make sure I have cash.

I pay rent with them and send checks in graduation cards. That’s about it. I’m on my last book of checks that shows an old address. When this runs out, I’m going to try going without and see how it turns out.

My DD's preschool required checks so I have a stash of them that I am trying to use up. They have come in handy here and there - like sending in money for school pictures- check, deposit on a party room - check.

My kid's school uses them for certain expenses. I write one every month or so.

Yes, but I don’t use them anymore. A check I wrote out to pay for plumbing services was counterfeited about 8 months later, and scammers tried to withdrew thousands of dollars from my account. I was lucky the bank reimbursed me, but there were several attempts involving the altered check. I no longer pay with checks.

Yes, of course. I use them monthly for rent, phone bill, electric bill, Internet service bill, cell phone bill, credit card bills, any other bills (doctor, dentist, etc.), charitable donations, etc.

I would never pay by check in a retail store. I'm mostly a cash user for small (sub-$200-ish) retail transactions and will use credit cards for large ones or where proof of purchase or consumer protections are important (anything that might have problems or need to be returned). I never use debit cards due to the lack of legal protections for mis-use.

+1 check forgery is much harder than fraud from a debit/credit/venmo account.

I use mine 1-2 a month.

I still use them. More of my service people are moving to digital payments but still quite a few who only do checks. I think homeowners are more likely to need them.
And also I will use a check if it will save a service fee.
