Anonymous wrote:Hi all. I’m concerned that DD 6 is being bullied. For context she wears glasses and has sort of a funny affect. Additionally she sort of limps when she walks, not due to any sort of disability, simply the way she moves. She has told me that the other kids in her first grade class have been imitating her voice, comparing her looks to a frog’s, and I’m concerned this will take a turn towards physical bullying. How do I step in and prevent this.

Limping. This is a huge concern. Please got to your pediatrician. Point this out and ask for a referral to an OT or PT, whatever they think is best.
Affect. Not exactly sure of your meaning. Again, go to your pediatrician and ask for a referral. Neuropsych eval, psychologist, social worker… something.
How long have you been seeing your current pediatrician? Have they ever had concerns about your child’s development?
Limping. Not due to injury just the way she walks?!?! Could be hip joint, leg length, neurological, many things that need to be ruled out or treated. Even a simple orthotic, ffs.
Froggy looks. Is this eye, mouth, facial geometry? Bulging eyes could be thyroid or cancer.
Imitate her voice? What about her voice? Hoarseness could be GERD, other things due to other things.
No one is saying mocking or bullying is ok but the river of parental denial running through this child's life needs to end.

Why are we trying to to fix a 6 yo with a limp??? Its borderline child abuse to not check it out!
Of course a child should be treated for medical issues but the reason is for the health of the child and not for the satisfaction of her peers.
…which is exactly what everyone is saying. Glad you agree!

There are a lot of ugly frames out there.
But these days glasses are way more fashionable then when I was a kid.
