My kid wrote about how much she loves reading, which was very authentic to her. In at her ED1 school and now a happy English major there.

That is a great essay and very creative and also sad. I can see why this essay worked.

I have no idea. I just remember reading it and thought it was interesting. Obviously, it stuck with me.

Last year, my kid's essay highlighted their character and personality through 3 examples/stories. It was authentic, reflective, in my kid's voice, and included some stories that 'experts' advise to avoid since they may be generic. I thought the essay was well done but not extraordinary - but clearly effective since kid was accepted ED to an ivy. I think the strength was that the essay displayed my kid's self awareness, humility and confidence.

One of mine wrote about a traumatic experience he had while working at a gas station when someone overdosed in the bathroom. The other wrote about cooking and eating cicadas. Both were accepted to top schools.
