If I saw a starving child in the street, my first question would be where are your parents and why aren’t THEY caring for this child? If we really cared for these kids, SNAP would not allow people to purchase items that have zero nutritional value. And very strict limits on how long someone can use them. No one should ever be allowed to generationally be on SNAP.

Not every child has good parents. So now should those kids also starve to death? I will say that perhaps if more people felt this way JD Vance, who was raised by a drug addict, might not be where he is today because he wouldn’t have gotten enough food to survive.

It's true, there are lots of plenty of overweight kids. Maybe this is because eating healthy (lean protein, fresh vegetables) is expensive. So instead they fill up on the empty calories their parents can afford and still don't get the nutrients they need.

I've been working as a software developer for 25 years. Nobody (h1b or otherwise) has replaced me. Sounds like you need to pull yourself up harder by your bootstraps.

Nobody is actually starving in the U.S. Some people exist on gov't support because they are actually incapable of supporting themselves due to involuntary physical or mental disability, but many, if not most, can or could support themselves if they chose to. The former merit pubic support as a moral imperative. The latter, not so much.

There is a TikToker who calls churches pretending to be a single mom with a 2 month old baby who hasn’t eaten in a day because she can’t afford formula. She asks the churches for formula - not money, says she’ll come over and get it - and almost every single church she’s called has said “we don’t do that sorry not sorry”. A mosque and a Buddhist temple both gave her formula.

Even more disgusting, one of the pastors of these churches justified this with “Islam requires mosques to help the poor but Christianity doesn’t”. Another pastor of an megachurch appeared to apologize wearing a $600 shirt.

It’s disgusting.

Helping the poor is one of Christ's core commands in the Gospels. Any pastor who says they do not have a duty to help the poor is a fraud.

And water is wet. Most of them are charlatans.

Now to answer your questions as to my going on my meager salary. PS. I’m not one of your typical $200k plus salaried employee.

1. I have contributed thousands of dollars to save the children, capital area food bank, dc kitchen, and central mission over the years.

2. Do you consider adopting an older orphaned child from a developing country a refugee. How about taking in the mother and her two small children into your home after they became homeless after escaping an abusive husband. Or, this woman and her children are Americans, so I’m not sure they fit in your scenario as refugees.

3. None. I donate directly to St Jude.

4. I donate to Water Aid. They build wells and provide clean water all across the world.

Btw, I highly recommend all the organizations I’ve mentioned in my post. Now how about you PP, what have you done t alleviate a little bit of suffering in the world?

As a conservative, who sometimes votes republicans, I'll give you my perspective. I was not happy with Trump on the withholding of SNAP funds. It was cruel and wrong.

So you are correct - Trump was/is on the wrong side of this.

There are so many big and important policy issues we as a country are fighting over. Despite this one being bad for Trump and the Republicans, it does not move the needle on making the Democrats more palatable.

And Dems are sooo unpalatable because of... reality, or right wing distortions, misrepresentations and dishonest talking points?

This. SNAP is really corporate welfare so they don't have to pay workers a decent wage. It's double corporate welfare for Wal-Mart since many of their workers spend their SNAP benefits there.
