Normally a clean CR is the negotiation.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:The Dems were not going to win a game of chicken when the Republicans want to crash. The Dems are in a good position. They weren’t getting anything more by dragging this out longer.
If democrats caved and ended the shutdown, how was it ever a republican shutdown?
It was 100% a democrat shutdown, from start to finish.
So you're blaming Democrats for Mike "my way or the highway" Johnson passing a bill he knew would be rejected by the Senate, then keeping his members home to prevent any possibility of negotiation?
Senators were ready to end the shutdown weeks ago. Schumer told them to wait until after the election. At least that's the story being told.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:While I was very pro shutdown, I am ok with it ending. First, the government had to reopen and the GOP was not going to bend. Second, I think it’s a long term win for the Dems. While I think it’s horrible health care costs will go up for many people, that and Trump’s fighting SNAP benefits has shown that the GOP doesn’t care about struggling people and has no healthcare plan. Maybe it will open some eyes to see who protects struggling Americans and who has galas for billionaires.
This is why the blame for the shut down will be split evenly. Democrats are way too vocal and obvious about being "pro shut down."
By pro shutdown, I meant that I favored the Dems fighting to prevent the insurance increases. I was certainly not in favor of the government shutting down and making my friends and neighbors twist in the wind for 43 days.

Why can’t we just call another vote in the senate and re-vote? The shutdown isn’t even over yet.
No, they are not having buyer's remorse. They knew the reaction. It's why they had other Senators vote yes instead of them.

It's pretty obvious the Democrat leadership decided they needed to end the shutdown while looking like they opposed the deal. So they had the least vulnerable senators vote for the deal and are now pretending to be mad at them. It's all a big show.
But the Democratic leadership kept pushing the narrative: “we cannot end the shutdown because republicans control both houses and the White House; we are powerless and the republicans are 100% to blame!”
- was that a false narrative all along ?
Nope. The Democratic leadership did not push that narrative. The only “false narrative “ here PP is your claim.
I’m fine with being corrected though, if you can support your initial comment.
The Democrats have claimed — correctly— that it’s all on the Republicans, who, of course, could have chosen to end the shutdown at any point. While the Democrats could have caved at any point, they “kept pushing the narrative “ that the Republican plan to make health insurance unaffordable for millions of Americans is unacceptable. I’d argue that the truly unacceptable stance is one that pits the need for food against the need for healthcare.
What's unacceptable is democrats were getting the Obamacare subsidies already in place prior to covid and they wanted the covid emergency subsidies also to continue to be stacked on top of those.
Enough is enough. Covid is in the rearview mirror.
The fact that there are already subsidies and then there were additional subsidies for COVID and that the ACA is not affordable without these subsidies demonstrates that the ACA is not actually affordable. There MUST be change.

But, when there is a “bad result” on a vote, the simple solution we have is to simply keep voting until the parties vote correctly.
I do not see the reason for America not doing this as we do.
That is true tyranny
No thats the way things are supposed to go , shut up and let trump do his thing and if it fails the public will vote him out
