For some working parents it was the only day they could be at the school some. Not all parents can take off any other day that's not a federal holiday.
+1. When my kids were in elementary school in FCPS they had an excellent Veterans Day program. The kids learned so much about Veterans Day and had an assembly with songs and presentations, and they invited all of the veterans in the family community to attend. It was really heart warming.
+2 The elementary school did an amazing job honoring veterans with a breakfast and programs that day. Parents, grandparents, etc were all welcome. It was a really nice way for kids to connect with veterans - particularly with their grandparents.

It was nice but it was a wasted day educationally for some as well.

Oh my gosh we did too! Glad we weren’t the only ones that thought this was a ridiculous waste of time.
Anonymous wrote:It is too much and too hard to educate kids this way. Our school has early release on Wed. as well. So basically two three day weeks in a row. It is a joke.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:It's a federal holiday. I get the complaints about endless days off but this seems like a weird one to get mad about.
But a minor one that very few companies close for and so FCPS did not give it off in the past.

+1. I support federal holidays, spring break, and an end of Q closure. These endless religious holidays and observance, plus random days off are absolutely ridiculous.

No you don’t. You don’t homeschool just because the school has some random off days.
Do you know what it takes to seriously homeschool (in a right way).
