There actually is a bar in walking distance, it's on the back side of campus not far from the upperclassman dorms. It opened last year. And there are shops and restaurants the street from the main entrance. Agree, however, that when kids want to go to bars, they usually go to one in uber distance.

Wake has a smaller greek system, its not the same vibe as Clemson which has a large greek system more like an SEC school (although its ACC).

Clemson has a much more southern vibe and kids who aren't used to that can have a little culture shock. Wake has kids from all over the country and doesnt feel like a "NC only" school and has a more insolated feel- smaller campus but lovely.

They are not "vastly" different. The hyperbole is not helpful.

Wake's Greek system may be smaller but only because there are fewer students. Overall, it has a larger impact on the tone of the campus than does the Greek system at Clemson.

Clemson's vibe is not "much more" Southern; in fact the two are comparable in that category. Anyone who experiences a "culture shock" at either of these schools is too immature to be in college.

Some of you love the over-the-top language, but it's not a positive in your writing style or helping with questions like this.

Yes they are very different, even "on paper".

Clemson- Rural, Public, 23,401 undergrads
Wake - Suburban, Private, 5,490 undergrads

The vibes are not comparable as another PP describes Wake feels more like a country club/boarding school envt, and its a very contained campus. Most students stay on campus through Jr year with a very large amount of students studying abroad junior year. Wake has 50% of undergraduates participating in Greek life, but it feels different than Greek life a a large school like Clemson.

Please. Clemson is not "rural."

Lol. Yes it is. Its in the middle of no where. That's not a dig. Also- US News & World Report categorizes them that way.

Clearly, you've never been there. "Rural" is Penn State.

I have taken many trips to Clemson for work and pleasure for football. Clemson is a college town in a large rural area. Even USN&R disagrees with you. Why are you arguing this?

Because you're wrong and don't know what you're talking about. And I went to school there, and DS visited last summer on his own college search.

You're kidding, right? Why are you lying to yourself? Clemson is rural. Not to say it's a bad thing but it is where it is!

Yes, from your perch in leafy Bethesda, I'm sure anything outside of the Beltway appears "rural" to you.

Well you aren't OP's son. Wake is much harder to get into, and better frat life and fewer country bumpkins than Clemson.

I don't know about Clemson, but I would say the nickname "Work Forest" is true. Kids do need to work fairly hard at Wake, though they also play hard.

And they have a building named after Strom Thurmond! It's a win win.
