When you say "retake" - do you mean retaking the same test with the same questions, or retaking a new test with new questions about the same material?
I assume the latter - retaking the same test with the same questions would be fraud.
I have no idea - apparently it’s up the individual teacher on how to handle retakes.
This whole retake thing is idiotic.
+1. It’s 7th grade math. Why would the child need a retake? What difference would it make?
To learn the material better? Sorry you don’t see value in that.
That’s easily fine by correcting mistakes and handing it in as a homework grade. Kids need to also learn that they won’t be given retakes in college.
It has been stated in many, many threads before that
a) High school (and certainly middle school!) are not college. It's okay if the rules are different.
b) More and more colleges are adopting retakes, dropping the lowest score, letting the final replace a test grade, allowing an alternate assignment to count instead of a poor test.
Retakes are here to stay. If you don't agree with them, tell your kid they can't do them.
Good colleges are not doing that.

Yes emails from parents work. I highly recommend them!
That’s okay. My kid studies for tests the first time and doesn’t need mommy to email his teachers.

Anonymous wrote:This is 8th grade math that won't go on your child's transcript. Let it go. At this point, if you force the teacher's hand on a retake, they are likely to make the retake way, way harder than the original test. Your honors student should have studied harder.

I'm with the teacher, but that would be the case even it it's not the end of the quarter.
Go start a thread debating the concept of retakes. It's FCPS policy, which is why the OP is asking about the aberration from the policy.

First, these are just 12 year old kids. Second, the tests are often graded harshly by a computer nowadays so there is zero partial credit in math class.Anonymous wrote:Why should there be retakes?

This is bad advice. Your kid probably only had 2 tests this quarter. I wouldn’t suggest dropping a kid down based just on that. They are barely getting used to back to school. Increase support but stay steadfast.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Title says it all. Test was taken Monday this week. My child said that they didn't have exams this week because there would not have been time for a make-up, any test would have been for the second quarter.
I would suggest that your child should have had a few tests by now and should have a good idea about how to prepare for a test. If your child has needed retakes for the various tests in the subject ehn maybe they should be dropping out of honors and into regular math.
