Nov. 4, the Virginia and New Jersey governors elections, the NYC mayor election, among others,

And what does any of that have to do with the shutdown?

Neither side wants to do something perceived as unpopular right before an election. Not that it’s clear what voters support more.

At this point I’m praying for a Christmas miracle. No one cares. It’s humbling. I still cant believe congress paying themselves and not their own police officers. Do they really expect them to take a bullet for them right now?

I don’t believe it will end until Trump wants to end.

Also, no, I don’t believe them at this point.

I see no vote on anything to open the government today. Assuming they again recess tomorrow afternoon for a 3+ day weekend, the next milestone seems to be the day after local elections, next Wednesday. So odds are we are out at least through Wednesday. I see the betting odds are showing 57% chance it goes through Nov. 14.

I’m glad I put all my use or lose leave on the books basically the day before the shutdown. I have a trip coming up the end of next week and it would appear I will not be using that leave.

Anyone else heard crickets since being furloughed?

Like crickets from your boss and co-workers? In my case, no. I'm a supervisor and we are directed to keep in touch at least once a week.

OP here, I’m an acting exec at the moment who is furloughed, as is my entire staff, and I’ve heard absolutely nothing from my next level exec nor been given any direction to communicate with my employees, though I have texted them of my own accord just to check in.

What do you not understand?

Republicans never ever were going to reopen the government.

How did you not know that?

Honest question - what do you get out of repeatedly posting this? How do you want people to react to the "information" you're sharing?

+1

This poster is annoying.

And then what? Another shutdown?

Yep. The CR on the table only funds the government through 11/21. So if the dems pass it as-is we’ll be right back where we are in a few weeks.

I work with a lot of government relations folks in my org and they seem to think that this is a very real possibility. Open long enough to get the benefits and paychecks out and then another shutdown after 11/21.

I actually think this is the best strategy for the Dems. Monday morning people can start looking at their ACA premiums. Election is Tuesday. Vote the CR that’s on the table on Wednesday. It’ll force the House to return to deal with 11/21 and beyond.

Very curious to see how the elections go on Tuesday.

Agree here as well. Get benefits out. Force the House to return and seat Grijalva. Epstein files and electoral clarity

The president doesn’t shut down or open the government. Congress does that.

While I don’t think the govt will never reopen, I actually think it will in a couple of weeks, we all know if Trump told Congress to get it reopened, Johnson and Thune would be tripping over themselves to get it done.
