NP here. Who said anything about whether the candidates were straight? How would you even know that?

Also, did you read any of the surrounding story? WF honored the first black homecoming queen (crowned over 50 years ago) and she crowned the current queen (also black) and all parties seemed pretty happy to be involved. The alum sounds accomplished and I would like to know more about her (and her story may not have been told without being selected as Queen).

A quick search also notes that a vast number of schools select a Homecoming Court. Courts are also selected very differently. As usual, reality is nuanced and varied.

Did you look into anything before you posted on a public forum?

This is such a small part of homecoming at Wake. As I said, so small I don’t even remember it. And someone above mentioned the court is picked due to their community service, not popularity.

I remember having alums sometimes join the band for a song or two. I remember dressing up for dances thrown by fraternities.

I also remember seeing my uncle one year at his fraternity three sheets to the wind ;p (there is a rather funny story there, actually)-it might have been a reunion year for him? He was my only relative who attended before me.
