Maybe because a college is more than just a degree factory. Maybe wants a smaller school, maybe wants access to a stronger alumni network, maybe wants to go to school with a higher caliber students, maybe wants a school with a better sports program, maybe wants a school closer to home? I can truly think of lots of reasons.

She is applying EA to both and not convinced she can get in to either. There is no choice unless she gets in to both.
