This is not true. No one actually makes money from gambling in the long run. The margins taken are too high.

Also anyone actually making $3K-$5K per week consistently gets their max bet capped at a ridiculously low amount by the sportsbook almost immediately. They're not in the business of losing money and there is nothing stopping them from getting rid of the customers they don't want.

More likely is that the husband is only telling the wife about the wins and hiding the losses.

Mine does occasionally. He has won some rather large sums.

OP here. That’s interesting, I wonder if there’s a cultural element to this. I don’t know anyone who gambles, but I imagine it’s not something they advertise. I also wonder if it’s more popular with the high net worth crowd who are more comfortable with risk.

Yes but it's like $1, $2 bets. He bets on MMA fights and occasionally "anytime touchdown" parlays for NFL.

It's a running joke in our house, he'll be on the edge of his seat watching to see if the last leg of his parlay hits and I'm talking about how if everything works out, both kids will be able to go to college!

He funded his betting account with $50 or $100 about 4 years ago and just plays with what's in there, it's not an ongoing expense.

No, thank god. Many of his friends do and they talk about how much they lie to their wives about it. It makes me really sad, because some of them have families with young children, and they are losing (at some points) thousands of dollars that could be going to benefit their children instead.

I agree its a huge issue. They basically target kids and get them hooked early. These apps should be illegal imo.

The 20+ year olds do a football fantasy thing that they have been doing for years. I think they each put in $10? We all do a ESPN March Madness bracket and we each put in $5.

As far as I am aware, no one does the online gambling sites.

Yes. All the time but super small bets.
He keeps $200 in his account and works that.
When we cross state lines he can’t bet and is disappointed.

Maybe once or twice a year? He has a friend who (seemingly) is a responsible and financially stable person but likes to gamble, and my husband will sometimes ‘go in’ with him on a March madness bet or something similar.

Someone people make money from it but you have to be very disciplined
