If the Op was implicit about it, I'll make it explicit. If I were a director and a part-time temporary started haranguing me about being in the office when I didn't feel well and I was trying to finish a couple things that had to be done so I could get out of there, I'd be pissed. It's not her place. I'm sorry if that is an affront to your egalitarian senses, but it's true. Not everyone is equal in the workplace, and the pity hire who scans documents for 15 hours a week has no business interfering with long-time, high level employees who do the actual work.

You sound nice.

You're a moron. A sizeable portion of the population is sick at any given time. A sizeable portion is contagious and don't even know it. The "you should wear a mask and use PTO because you have a cold' crowd are imbeciles as well. What if OP is hoarding his PTO to use getting his child cancer treatment? Should he forfeit days with his son at Chemo because some divorced loser is scared she might catch a sneeze?

You people are insufferable. If you are so scared of a simple cold then the onus is on YOU to stay home, not the person with the cold. I run my life for me, sweetie, not for you.

I'd fire that beyotch so fast her head would spin. I'd be tempted to fire her brother as well for bringing in such a POS in the first place.

That logic makes zero sense. The onus is on the SICK person, not the healthy one! You sound very selfish. Haven't you heard of the 'greater good?" You do not live on a deserted island. If you did than we wouldn't care but, many people who are healthy may live with compromised people with weakened immunity. Why are you only thinking of yourself??? Also you are petty just like our DEAR LEADER. If you don't give feedback than how can the person change and improve?

NP, and don't be an idiot. Being sick is not a binary equation, where being sick - any type of sick - means you should stay at home. If you have a fever, yes. If you have a head cold? It's at your discretion. If you can WAH, great, go for it. But if you need to come in, like OP, then OK.

I refuse to believe you, and people like you, are completely devoid of nuance in your real life. So why pretend like you are here?

I believe we all know what sick is and you are being the idiot here pretending that I am suggesting a mild cold means I am saying stay home. But we are only hearing op's side and they could have been sicker than they say. All I am saying is if you are really sick and I am not going to define it for you than you should stay home. The responsibility is not on the healthy person.

You sound a bit unhinged or not smart enough to understand the nuance of what I was saying. But keep on 'refusing to believe' ...

The OP expressly said, "On Friday I had a small cold and was in the office."

I have a colleague named Bill. Bill has been here for 2 years and is below me on the org chart if you care about such things. Bill has a sister named Sue in her late 50s that just went through a bad divorce and relocated to DC to live with her brother. Bill got her an admin job (literally scanning old docs we've been meaning to digitize for a couple years). That is it. She scans for 15 hours a week. She has no real professional experience or education from what I can discern. She was a homemaker to 3 kids during her 'working years'.

She is obnoxious af. She chimes in unsolicited all the time on matters that she has zero business in. She does not get along with any of the women and she's just..... angry all the time.

On Friday I had a small cold and was in the office. Sue heard me sneeze and asked, loudly, "What are you doing here? You're going to get everyone sick!"

I replied that I had things in the office (confidential) that couldn't be taken home and that I'd be out shortly. She doubles down and says that I should have "taken leave".

I tell her, politely, that the how, when, and why I take leave will be decided by me and not her.

I got a text from my boss this morning saying that Sue had emailed him 3 times over the weekend about my 'blatatant' disregard for the health of the office and wanted to know what the hell is going on.

I wouldnt mind her getting fired but I don't want to be the reason, especially since I work closely with Bill all the time.

I also know that people get set up all the time and I'm not certain this isnt one of those times.

Advice?

You have such contempt for stay at home parents. And how do you know 'no woman likes her?' I hope you are not a woman! You sound just awful

This. After Covid, you need to know to just wear a mask when you have the sniffles. She may be in the wrong 99% of the time, but you set yourself up for this one. She just said what everyone else was thinking.

np to be honest, the bolded sounds like you have zero respect for women who stay at home. How do you know 'none of the women' like her and what does that have to do with your complaint? If you were sick you should have stayed home!

Are you her direct boss? Why not tell her directly that she needs to focus on her job and not give unsolicited advice? Has anyone told her that directly?

I wouldnt mind her getting fired but I don't want to be the reason, especially since I work closely with Bill all the time.

Rant all you want. Your point is what? People should go to work sick? Ok, cool.

Yeah, if they decide it's in their interest.

If I'm faced with the choice of having 8 hours to use for a long weekend or 8 hours to use hiding from scaredy cat coworkers, guess how I'm using it?

Then you should be able to handle being called out. Otherwise you are the scaredy cat.

With the push to RTO from both government and private sectors, we should all expect more people to come into the office sick. And those of you who think the OP's masking would have protected you are crazy. How many masked people who hung out with other masked people caught COVID?Lots. People sneeze into their hands and then touch everything spreading their germs, so it's up to you to protect yourselves, not OP. And this nut job's harassment of OP's boss was over the top. Not sure why the OP's boss was mad at OP, though. Seems like a weird place to work.
