Right? I do wonder what their yield rate is on these? Then, for strong but lower stats kids without merit (like what my kids would be, I'm sure), what is the yield...as I presume many of these kids would need some merit to make pitt oos work?

I mean I guess if they are overenrolled, Pitt has figured out the formula but it seems like not enough for a kid whose safety is Pitt!

DP. I’m not sure their model is to lure away from a higher-ranked school; I think it’s to be in the mix if the higher-ranked schools don’t pan out.

I agree with this. The discounts would makes OOS parents interested vs. UMD or similar.

I'm a Pitt alum living outside of PA. My son received only a $5K merit offer two years ago, likely due to lower SAT scores. Pitt was about $20K more than where he ended up going. We probably won't bother with younger son applying. Even though it would probably be a good fit. He can get an equally good fit locally at lower cost.

My child got email honors school acceptance today. No $$$$ email yet.

I’m shocked that kids with these stats would even consider Pitt OOS. These merit numbers are a joke. AIM higher!!!

DC just got honors college notification. This is interesting as they said it won't be until December.

Swanson, $20K per year. UWGPA 4.0, 36 ACT.

Electrical engineering, for now. She is a high stats, but not super stats kid so completely surprised. She really loved the urban campus and just the vibe of the place. Could really see herself there. It’s not her top choice, but a great option.

Tell me you’ve never applied to Pitt without telling me you’ve never applied to Pitt.

One of the great things about Pitt is that it requires absolutely nothing from your school in order to be admitted so the timeline is 100% in the hands of the student.

Pitt is different though because you don't need anything from the school. You self-report transcript and there's no counselor rec. That's why kids can apply so early.

My kid only got $20k total ($5 per year). He had a 1570. Not sure what other factors are in play.

Agree. Our Pitt tour experience was great, but the $15k merit doesn’t make it more affordable than UVA in state.

from our HS Pitt is for those who do not get into UVA or WM in state: the small merit is the bragging right of the parent to cover the fact they did not get in elsewhere. Auburn offers a lot of merit to VA students too, no one goes unless they do not get in uva or VT

You can't even compare Pitt to UVA or WM or VT. Pitt's campus is in a city unlike any of these. My kid preferred Pitt's campus over UVA, WM, and VT hands down. But no one is disputing UVA's ranking. Obviously, many kids would choose it just for that reason alone, especially if in-state. But I can see kids picking Pitt over the other schools for sure.

DP. Pitt doesn’t require teacher recs, and transcript is self-reported. PP’s kid just got stuff done early, no need to be salty about it.

Oh, so YOUR counselor/teachers got their recs and paperwork in nice and early. Good for them.
