From the schools I've seen, Chicago and Vanderbilt. Columbia too in a distinctly NY way.

It is interesting that many of the schools listed had campuses originally designed by Frederick Law Olmstead or his firm.

Duke, Wellesley, Chicago, Trinity, etc.

Princeton and Duke for the classic gothic look.

Personally, I prefer Duke because the architecture is more coherent - even the newer buildings on West include gothic elements (except for the Bryan Center . . . ) and I love how the chapel is central.

Princeton's main quads are stunning. But the rest of campus includes so many other random buildings with different styles, including some really ugly ones. Some people love the variety, but it's not my jam.

    UMD is a classic collegiate campus with a full package of architecture, history, vibe, libraries, quads, lecture halls but no ivy covered walls. The after graduation scene from St Elmos fire was shot at UMD's Greek row.
