Subject: UVA and low 1300s SAT
Just a few years ago, prior to this test optional stuff, UVA's 25% score was below 1300.
I think people sometimes don't understand the huge impact that TO had on the lower 25% and 50%.

BS. My son is doing great in engineering at UVA, having scored a 1320 on his SATs
But they applied test optional, no? And are they hooked? Because a 1410 is the bottom 25th percentile for UVA.

You should both try to get it fixed and definitely apply even if you can't. I never understand it when people just decide to give up before even applying, unless application fees are an issue. Sounds like a good student who would do well at UVa if he gets in. People forget that the figures on the Common Data Set represent a breadth of applicants and that not every applicant who is accepted meet ALL the standards. They might meet 2 out of 3, for example and be terrific additions to the school.

The transcript is sent to Common App.
Why are SAT scores sent in Common App? Are they going to send PSAT scores too? Is your kid from a public or private school?

The transcript is sent to Common App.
Why are SAT scores sent in Common App? Are they going to send PSAT scores too? Is your kid from a public or private school?

Ha, you are extremely wrong. My nephew got in last year TO with a high gpa and rigor, 4s and 5s on AP exams, and his SAT score was 1080. Some kids don’t test well and those are the ones who apply TO. A 1320 is close to the 25th percentile for SUBMITTED scores at UVA, why would you think it is low “even for them” (those who choose not to submit)?
A 1080 is not "not testing well." That kid can't even be considered smart with the watered down SAT. Talk about gaming the system. Hopefully they're majoring in lib arts and have no plans for grad school.

Plus, that’s a pretty decent score.
Decent score for a junior taking it first time no tutoring or practice tests maybe.

Maybe its not jealousy, but the fact the other poster feels its unfair.
Fine for that poster to feel that way, but maybe their child should apply only to test required schools. Otherwise, they risk their very special child being contaminated by the riffraff who “can’t be considered smart.”
