Agree. APush is more rigorous than AP World.
AP Euro is very challenging tho.

This is a terrible way to decide what to study.

It’s also not universal. At our school, they are equally hard and World might be harder.

oMG of course the AP's are universal. There's not a different AP curriculum for districts or schools they are NATIONWIDE standard tests.

Of course this could be true. What people generally mean by "hard" is how hard it is to get an A. In that regard, you could have two sections of exactly the same class that are different levels of difficulty. The final AP exams will be standardized, but that doesn't mean the AP World teacher in a given school doesn't make their class harder than the APUSH teacher. (That said, in our school, APUSH is clearly much harder than World.)

I can't speak about all schools, but DD's school does not allow sophomores to take APUSH, only AP World.

Right, I think was PP was suggesting was Honors World as a sophomore and APUSH Jr year.

They would take AP Chem. By senior year they still would have 6 major APs in a variety of disciplines, just not APUSH.

How important is APUSH to getting into W&M? My child would apply there ED.

It depends where your DD is applying from and what her peers took and how many of them are applying ED as well. The first hurdle is your school peers.

Its just a basic fact, its not a course study guide based on individual interests.

My kid is not planning to talk APUSH, he is planning to take BC Calc, AP English, AP Spanish, AP Chem and honors physics junior year. He took AP World and did well but wants to focus on stem classes as a junior since the calculus and science classes he’ll be taking are foundational for other classes he’ll take in college and he just likes that stuff more. If a college turns him down because of this, he figures it wasn’t the right fit for him anyway.

It’s ok. My kid got in as a Monroe scholar with DE history. Lots of other APs and rigor. It was a good class.

Thank you!

You are welcome! I wanted to mention, I am not sure if your child is interested in UVA- but our school counselor did tell us that UVA is a bit different than W&M because UVA wants the highest AP courses in the main subjects- math, science, english, lang/history. She told us that our daughter was inadmissible for UVA due to the no AP Calc, but W&M she had a shot. Our daughter was also told by her Regional Rep from W&M that in NOVA you are basically competing with the kids from your HS to get in. She also applied ED.

If your school counselor really said this they need to be fired. It is categorically untrue that without AP Calculus you are “inadmissible” to UVA. It’s better to have it, sure, but it is not an admissions requirement. As for W&M; until a few years ago they actually said on their admissions website that they wanted Calculus. They don’t say that anymore.

No disrespect at all, but for our high school-- this is true. I don't know anyone who got into UVA without it. And to be very blunt- many very strong students who did have all the top AP classes didn't get in either. I was really surprised at the kids who did not get into UVA this year. Very great stats etc.
