That’s great. Looks like some schools were smart about it.

Central Office didn't bother sending teachers the agenda. Schools had some flexibility in how they implemented the day, which included 7.5 outlined hours.

Part One: Science of Learning (2 hours)
Part Two: School created content to the am session (4 hours)
Part Three: Teacher independent time aligned to professional learning objectives (1.5 hours)

It would have been great to have time to do all of the stuff that cannot be done during the school day, but it's apparent that both the state and county have no clue about the demands of this job.

Did ILT warn you that you have to make it up?

Two years ago, my mom was rushed to the ER on the DWPL day. I had to make it up afterschool the following week.

No one has talked to me about a make up yet. I won’t ask and I hope they don’t tell. Since I used 8 hours of leave, I’m going to make sure any make up I’m asked to do takes as little of my time as possible. Hopefully it’s skimming the stupid slides and scribbling some thoughts on a google form.

If a staff member used leave, they should not have to make up anything.

As an ES parent, I am curious in what ways you feel like the curriculum doesn't align with the science of learning? Which subjects? We're probably stuck with CKLA for awhile but they are apparently about to replace Eureka so I would be very curious about your perspective on whether it aligns with the science or what could be different in a new curriculum that we could advocate for...

DP - where did you read they are replacing Eureka?
.

They've mentioned it a few times lately including at the Board meeting yesterday: https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/DMEQEB68EB75/$file/Curriculum%20Update%20251016%20PPT%20REV.pdf

I'm not sure that they are replacing Eureka as much as there will be an evaluation of if it meets and aligns with the revised standards and/or if there is something else that does so better AND would be better to teach.

Eureka also has a newer edition that isn't what MCPS purchased. I'd be really shocked if they didn't renew the Eureka contract, because it's a pretty decent curriculum that's evidence based. My guess is we'd be switching to the newer version, not getting something new entirely.

We have to switch from Eureka to a new curriculum because MSDE is rolling out new math standards for the state that no curriculum currently addresses. Personally, I like Eureka and wish we had the newest version that isn't as language heavy in its content. I don't know what all the counties in MD are going to do from a curriculum standpoint in order to teach the new standards. Hopefully not go back to writing our own with that C 2.0 mess.

They don't have to switch curriculum. They need to enhance the curriculum with additional curriculum and resources to ensure that the new standards are incorporated. Honestly this 2year integrated Algebra is my biggest concern, as no one has that, Algebra is already a tricky point for kids, and what is going to come after it is still unknown. Maybe the will have answers this week when they preview.

They should more of these days but much shorter. One or two each quarter for 2-3 hours max.
