Thanksgiving dinner is mostly native.Anonymous wrote:What would we eat? Are there any restaurants around for native cuisine?
Anonymous wrote:How would they enforce that? I mean will they ban me from buying the ingredients to make my own pasta with a pasta attachment for my KitchenAid mixer? Will they ban me from buying tomatoes and the ingredients to make tomato sauce?
Think of the enforcement! They go creeping around apartment buildings with dogs specifically trained to sniff out specific cuisines and then confiscate the food and ... eat it in hiding?
Would we bring back the prohibition era, except instead of alcohol, it's lo mein and matzoh ball soup?

Italians stole tomatoes from us. The food in Italy isn't Italian if it uses tomatoes.

Just thinking about this weeks meal plan… we’re ok for tonight (vegetable soup and homemade bread), and the zucchini pasta doesn’t have any international ingredients (except black pepper). Everything else would suffer in flavor.
This is what I assumed the OP meant. Many people would be dead because we import most of our pharmaceuticals and medical equipment. Boomers would be obliterated, child mortality would go back to the 1930s, more women would die in child birth etc etc.
I think we could go back to producing a lot more here in our country. But prices would rise a lot. We have a lot of consumable products that are inexpensive because land, labor, and other resources are cheap in other countries. But we could make them here if customers would pay more.
That said, it's very expensive to change production sites back and forth.
My industry is busy writing down billions in assets because of changes in administration policy. Nobody knows if it's prudent to invest with current circumstances in mind. The current rules may only last for 4 more years. Whipsawing businesses around wastes money.
