The oldest boomers are about to hit 80 and that’s the age when people driving skills can easily erode along with one’s health. I’m more concerned about millenial moms driving big SUVs chatting on the phone while sipping something from those massive water bottles.

Apologies - I shouldn’t have said boomers - I mean people born prior to 1950 basically. At 75 I think we should all have to take a driving test and we should have to take it at least every 5 years to keep our licenses.


I think chronic speeders and tailgaters who are always in a rush should have their licenses revoked.

The thing is that it’s illegal to drive drunk, and teenagers have to take a physical driving test in order to get a license. Old people don’t ever have to prove that they are still road safe. They are just allowed to keep going until in many cases it’s too late.


You don't even need a license to drive here because who is going to stop someone from driving a car if they want to? None of the laws are enforced very well. Yet you are laser focused just one on group, why?


Also a very good point. I just read an article about a real ID being issued to someone that said ‘no name given’ where the name should be.

My post was about boomer drivers so yes that’s what this discussion is focused on.


An arbitrarily picked group that isn't the most deadly on the road? Mkay.

I understand what you are saying OP. My hope is that most GenX has gotten comfortable taking Ubers, Lyfts and now Waymo and won't feel like they are giving up their independence by not physically driving themselves.

I agree with PP's that Boomers aren't the generation you are actually angry with, but rather mostly greatest generation and then some of the oldest boomers.

That's not entirely true. Some older people do need to do that, which I know because my 84 year old Aunt just passed that test, which I believe was required by her work's car insurance carrier for all drivers of a certain age in the organization who drive other people around. So yeah, she's older than a Boomer and still driving well.


She - and you all - can feel good knowing that she took and passed a test in that regard. Almost no one else has to do that though. My mom is 82 and absolutely should not be driving. And yet, she screams and yells when we bring it up and just keeps going. I don’t know what to do.

SO true!!! It happens and then nothing is ever said again. I always thought that when the Parthenon thing happened - the identity of the killer was never revealed.
