Nope. They're going to redistrict lots of new neighborhoods to a dying SSIMS for 4 years and then redistrict them again to Sligo and Einstein right after. Because God forbid Whitman/BCC/WJ families don't get exactly what they want, but they know they can get away with pushing around DCC families.

Can you please stop directing your anger at other families in clusters that have nothing to do with you? The DCC is going away. Directing your bitterness at schools that did not cause you harm is not productive. You can advocate for yourself without jealousy/venom and you will be more effective and seem less petty.

DP

No, the disparity in how the DCC versus west county schools are being treated in both the boundary study and the program analysis is disgraceful.

You won't shut us up.

Funny how you were super quiet when you had magnet set asides, school choice, access to multiple special programs west county schools could not access, title 1 class sizes and funding and so on and so forth.

My child is in kindergarten so we've never benefited from any of these things.

Stop demanding we all pay for empty space in your kid's school you pathetic little grifter.

DP but you can’t complain about the loss of something and then say you don’t care (don’t benefit) from it.

I'm shocked, shocked you don't want me to complain about the obvious grift

There is no grift.

Leaving some schools 20% empty for the comfort of rich people while other schools are overcrowded is theft from taxpayers.

Why are we setting aside Wheaton? Their explanation makes no sense. They are leaving Wheaton overcrowded and lying about it.

I personally wasn’t including it for the moment bc we don’t have an explanation for the Edison overlap count thing.

I realize there is no stopping people from making accusations without information but my personal ethic is to operate with facts and to refrain from comment when facts are unknown.

Imagine if the boundary consultant had added 500 seats to your kid's school's stated capacity without explanation and used that as the basis for the final set of options that will be available for the Superintendent to consider. Try to put yourself in the Wheaton community's shoes. This is shady AF.

It's not clear what they'll do. They obviously didn't give Flo Analytics the numbers to reflect the higher capacities at Eastern and Sligo, because the capital budget hasn't been approved yet. But they could opt to leave those MS assignments as is for now, given the expected later boundary study for SSIMS specifically.

Yes, they should have and could have, since obviously MCPS has known the SSIMS closure was in the works and could have given Flo the heads' up to leave its boundaries alone in all or at least one option. But instead, its boundaries change wildly in all 4 options, adding Woodlin kids and a portion of Flora Singer kids and in one scenario some ESS kids (and moving Forest Knolls and Pine Crest kids out of SSIMS.). It's just stupid, too, since the Forest Knolls and MK/Pine Crest kids stay zoned to Northwood under all the options and get moved to Sligo and Eastern MS respectively, when there's no good reason not to leave them at SSIMS for its last few years and then let them get reassigned later. Instead

So basically they'll make Woodlin, Flora Singer, MK/PC, and Forest Knolls kids (and maybe some ESS kids) all move middle schools for a few years-- including creating split MS articulation for all those schools under most options except Woodlin-- and then everyone ends up at Sligo and Eastern in the end like they would have anyway.

But everyone here says that the superintendent will only pick from one of the 4 crappy options currently on the table. So I guess that means this dumb and disruptive temporary musical chairs still needs to happen.

I guess we'll have to see, but I think there's a good chance he'll modify an option to just keep everyone currently zoned to Sligo, Eastern and SSIMS at those schools for the time being. None of the three is overcrowded, so there's no reason anyone there has to be rezoned for MS in 2027.

I'd like to think so, but then why wouldn't he have just told Flo to do that in the first place? I hope it turns out that way but I suspect it will require a ton of advocacy if so.

But agreed, there's no real need to change around those MS boundaries in 2027 before changing them again in 2030, so why put all those kids and families (and teachers/admin who have to figure out articulation planning with a brand new school) through that?

So...anything.

If there are surprises in Dec, people will be very upset to learn last min.

December isn't last minute, the vote isn't until March.

Dec is recommendation to superintendent, not to solicit further community feedback. Community gets to provide feedback in first and second rounds. Although not impossible, I don’t believe MCPS would do last min surprise without community input.

Superintendent's rec is in January. Then there are multiple hearing for testimony before the Board votes in March. There will still be time for public input, although the superintendent's recommendation is most likely what the Board will support.
