I am friends with people in these fields and they are very worried because most of them have kids and want their kids to someday have the economic means to support themselves. And while I’m sure there are exceptions, most plumbers and teachers and landscapers don’t have trust funds to hand down.

The AI that you currently have access to isn't meant to actually be useful. It's meant to be useful and entertaining enough that you'll use it and help train it. The AI these companies are actually working to build is not and will not be available to the public. It will be used by the corporations to create products/services that you will have little choice in using because it will be in everything, everywhere.

Really? Think decades, not years. I have a relative working with cutting edge robotics. Handshakes are a challenge for robots. Fine motor skills will be an enormous challenge.



AI was going nowhere fast until suddenly it wasn't. Robotics is no different. And robots don't have to be perfectly anthropomorphic to replace jobs.

Landscapers, really? They already have robot lawnmowers. They may be more of a novelty than a truly practical item, but so was AI until about 3 years ago.




A robot isn’t going to come to your house and install an outlet or wire your addition. It’s not going to replace your toilet or run a new sink drain line and tie it in to the existing drain. It’s not going to install siding on your house. At least not anytime soon. And if/when we ever get to that point, it will be long after most other “white collar” jobs like doctor-lawyer-accountant-architect-engineer type occupations are eliminated.


If I am a white collar unemployed dude then I am going to open you tube and fix everything on my own, I won’t be able to afford plumbers or handymen.
