Why would you do all 3 in 2 weeks? That's insane. We barely touched Thailand alone in 3 weeks.

To answer your question - please get vaccines for Japanese Encephalitis and anything else recommended. A friend became only the 13th American to survive it after a trip to Vietnam. She's still considered legally disabled years after.

God people on here are awful. OP, check out lightweight cotton pants like the Everlane Easy Pant. Versatile and in my experience very comfortable for touring hot and humid areas.

No real advice to give on packing but you should not have given your full itinerary. Keep it vague or you inevitably invite criticism. Everyone on DCUM is the most interesting, an expert traveler, and somehow manages to look at least ten years younger than their actual age!

Skirts or dresses, or else pants, are more likely to blend in than capris. But you're unlikely to be excluded from an historic or religious site because you're wearing capris.

In addition to dresses, I wore linen pants while there. They were warmer, and thus less comfortable, than a dress but still breathable.


Skirts or dresses while sightseeing? Sorry, but that just isn't comfortable to me. I'll bring a dress for maybe an evening show/dinner cruise but would not be comfortable at all wearing a skirt or dress while visiting the Cu chi tunnels, mekong delta, or floating market.

As for capris....I'm quite short so when I say capris - they usually fall closer to ankle pants than true capris.

They're 95% nylon and SE Asia is insanely humid. That's a combination for misery. You want loose pants in a fabric that breathes. Not nylon for goodness sakes.

I know...my DH is apoplectic at not wearing shorts in 90 degrees.

It's likely he'll only need to wear pants when visiting Bangkok, and even then really only at the Grand Palace. He should relax. It's one day.

Must be nice not to have to work. Empty nester does not mean retired. Either way I don’t think I could do an entire month away in any one country.

Please don't wear capris. So dated and pegs you both as "loud Americans" over there. Personally, I think your itinerary sounds rather lame and touristy...yawns.
