Anyone know if IRS will continue working after the 5 days?

How do they handle TSP contributions? I have $904 taken out each paycheck in order to max out the $23,500 annual limit, but I am afraid if paychecks start getting missed, then I'm not going to have the opportunity to make it up this late in the year.

Not sure what civilian military is, but I am civilian DoD with the Defense Health Agency (one of those people who take care of our heroes) and we furloughed everyone that is not excepted on Wednesday. So yeah, if you are a service member not only will you not be getting paid, but your medical care will be impacted too.

I'm not the pp you quoted
VA hospitals are still good though. My spouse is a current civilian who works for the military, and was furloughed Wednesday. He is also a veteran and had an appointment at a VA medical facility on Wednesday. I dropped him off and it seemed business as usual.

Most of the VA money is multi year funding or mandatory spending so not part of the appropriations package. 90% of the VA federal employees are exempt. Of the 10% that can be furloughed, about 40% were. So yeah, the VA is business as usual, but care for active duty and reserves is impacted.

Do you know about impact of military pharmacies? Specifically the Fairfax Health Center pharmacy.

Anonymous wrote:I remember seeing guidance from OPM that furloughed employees could check their work email once a day (nominally to see if they had received a RIF notice) but now I can't find that guidance. Does anyone have a link?

Personally, I've been checking my email. There are so many unusual things going on for this shutdown that whatever was normal no longer applies.
If needed, call your supervisor and ask if you can check your work email.

Your recollection is only accurate when you are working despite there being no funds because you are excepted. If the agency has funds, then you get paid on time.

Yep. I worked at a self funded agency and everything proceeded as normal during the last shut down.

Any insiders on what kind of positions are eliminated in USPTO RIFs?

I think the house is recessed until 10/14. So unless the 5 Senators just decide to get on board with the same bill they’ve now voted against 3 times, something would have to change and it would have to go back to the house to pass it. So unless Johnson calls them back early to vote, looks like 10/14 would be the earliest this could end.

Can we please just keep it to shutdown news. Like if they voted to pass a budget or when the next votes could take place?

EPA is still up and running. No word on when the money will run out. Days? Weeks? Everyone’s just in the dark with no communication at all from senior leadership.
