Negotiations around Democratic priorities? Republicans took away the healthcare subsidies in the Big Ugly Bill but we believe that they are going to come to the table to negotiate what they took away? Why would Democrats believe them?

Republicans should have thought about this when they wouldn't negotiate with Dems on the OBBBA. Why didn't they negotiate then? Now they need something.

They did not take away any subsidies. The subsidies were passed during COVID as a temporary measure that is now expiring.

You can use as much punctuation as you want. It still won't make it true. Republicans are trying to force through a bill without negotiating at all. They didn't even show up to the meetings. Our system requires the majority to work with the minority. Republicans don't like the rules. This is 100% on them.

I think it’s simplistic to say that whoever is to blame for the shutdown. It’s the disagreement and the political mechanisms that are the reasons.

I had to remind my mom how negotiations typically work- since Republicans hold the majority and only need a few Democrats to vote with them, typically some sort of concession is offered to get those votes to the finish line. Which isn't happening here. And Republicans are being so rigid about it, why should Democrats trust the idea that those would be revisted at a later date?
