Subject: New tariffs coming on: kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, upholstered furniture and more
IKEA prices are already sharply higher than last year. I bought a kitchen shelving unit for $599 in May 2024. I saw the exact same item for $799 at the store yesterday.

The tariffs are funding trump’s big stupid deal by imposing a regressive tax on all of us. The government has already raked in over $100 billion dollars, disproportionately from the lower income citizens and undocumented. It’s a great way to make poor Americans even poorer.
I’m guessing one thing it will fund is a bailout/ subsidy for farmers.
Again what is this specifically funding? No one seems to know.

Are you asking if it’s earmarked for anything? It’s not. It goes to the U.S. treasury like the rest of your taxes. And I think that’s why Trump likes them so much. It’s basically sucker money that he pretends is not a tax. Trump made some half hearted remarks about lowering federal income tax because of the tariff revenue, but there is no bill or law that directs tariff revenue. It has been off setting some of the projected cost of the $4 trillion bill that he passed, though $165 billion is just a small dent.
