We take 2 big trips a year with our two teens. I’d love to travel more, but they are busy and don’t want to be away all the time so we respect their wishes. If your kids are ok with being gone a lot, lucky you!

same here!!! I have one in college dnd one in high school and I was asking them if they wanted to go Munich for Thanksgiving (i want to hit the christmas markets) and both were like nahhh, want to hang with friends. Both of my kids don’t really care for travel andwe have been all over the planet. It seem like we now have to drag them. The older they have gotten the more they dig in.

There is a gigantic wide range of income levels on here. we only net about 40% of our paychecks once everything get dispersed to taxes, retirement, and then taxable brokerage via direct deposit. We keep 30k in liquid savings and never touch it. after household expenses we have about 12k to spend each month frivolous activities/things. if we want to vacation we just use that money. If we need to buy a car or do some major home improvement project we just let that pile up a bit. we don’t pull from brokerage or the “emergency” cash. if we can’t use payroll money then we wait until enough payroll money has piled up in our checking. In reality much of that frivolous money ends up in the taxable brokerage.

Nobody can answer this question for you. Nobody knows your situation and nobody can put themselves in your shoes. This is choice you need to make with your spouse and your unique cash flow rate.
