I still wear skinny jeans, but mostly because I haven't been able to find any new jeans I find flattering in the last few years. So I have just kind of given up. At least my skinny jeans fit me OK.

No, but only because they were never all that comfortable for me in the first place. I find bootcut, flare or wide-leg denim (trouser style) much more comfortable. And those styles are more flattering on me anyway--just like they were in the 90s! I don't care about trends, though. At this stage of life (47), I wear what I want based on what fits me best.

50. hell yes! I still look good in them, and that may not last for long. Why would I be a slave to bad fashion trends and wear pleated mom jeans? They don't even look good on gwyneth! I will say that the 20 somethings look adorable in them...and everything else.

Intelligent people don't care about sartorial trends, across all socio-economic classes. But a lot do it anyway in some circles, because they see a net benefit (social or economic) to following a narrow and transient set of values. The ones that are most susceptible to caving to such pressures belong to the middle class. They are the most tied to their jobs, and professional networks, which are usually also their friend networks, and stand to gain the most by conforming, and lose the most if they don't. The indigent and the very wealthy, as you said, don't have so much to gain or lose by being more individualistic.
And this applies not only to clothes but to morals as well. What we think of as "morality" is only a set of values imposed by society so the population can achieve greater conformity and therefore stability and success. In modern times, since we don't have absolute monarchs or many dictatorships, it is generally perpetrated by the middle classes, for the reasons stated in my first paragraph. The very poor and the very rich often do not care, and can more easily evade reprobation and social consequences.

No, and I never wore them even when they were in style. I’m pear shaped and they just don’t flatter my figure. I’ve never stopped wearing boot cut jeans though I’ve also incorporated wide legs.

The visual for me is Size 18T. like those toddler sets from Carters with leggings and a thigh-length top. That's how I feel when I wear skinny jeans. Doesn't stop me, though. It's comfortable, and I have a lot of really pretty tunic tops from my time overseas.
I'm with all my middle aged women who wear what is flattering and/ or comfortable on them, and pay no attention to fashion. We've been through so many jeans trends, and for what? to pick our favorites, of course.
