How could they be behind you and in front of you at the same time? They are in line when they step into the correct spot. Looking at the display case does not guarantee them a spot behind me.

Or you could have situational awareness and ask where the end of the line is, like normal people. Also, no one needs to smile like a moron all the time. A simple "the end of the line is back there" is perfectly fine.


In Europe we can always spot the Americans because they smile all the time. Insane.

I say nothing and I take their drink when the barista calls it out.

Internally it makes me smile.

Half the time they don’t notice and wait an eternity for a drink that never comes. The other half they’ll say something like “Hey that’s my drink!” I finish taking my sip, and dramatically look at the label with surprise “Oh I’m SO SORRY, you’re right! This isn’t my mocha!”

Either way, they wait twice as long for their drink.

I’m passive aggressive, but I’m also kind of a B —-

I would say something benign like, "Oh, I'm know what I'm getting! I was in line here." with a smile. Who knows why people do the things they do. It doesn't need to be confrontational.
