UVA is better than every school on this list and UMD is better than most of them.

Sucks to be you, I guess.

Not Ivy or bust at all. Just saying that private school parents who can’t get their kids into Ivies tell themselves that these schools are great just because they’re private and expensive — but they’re not great. At all. Many state flagships are better, certainly the ones around here.

You're just talking out your backside if you don't back it up by numbers. And numbers say you're talking out of your backside.

Just look at the rankings. These schools are surrounded by flagships that are equally or more highly ranked.

NYU is a world class school and you're showing your ass by even mentioning it here.

Surprised Tufts wasn't on the list though.

Tufts is one where parents definitely think it's "all that" and it could be for some, but...

Emory is not a dump. Its gym is better than at any Ivy. All the health care stuff going on in and around there is amazing.

One of my kids is studying International Affairs at GWU. If there had been a reputable program for that at UMD, our state flagship, he'd have gone there. But he didn't get into Georgetown SAIS, and he didn't want W&M's dual degree programme with St Andrews, which offers an international affairs specialty. So he went to GWU, which offered him merit aid. He's happy there.

If you can afford it, you go where your major is.

Yes, you’ve told us about your son. Again and again and again.

Are you OP? Or another moron who can't understand that lots of DC area students get accepted into and attend GW? If they're into that Foreign Service major, they've probably all applied to the same schools too, because there aren't that many of them.

Maybe you should stop trying to recognize people.

No, it's always the same one.

OP has no data to show.

Prove it or concede!

You wouldn't get in, OP.

You wouldn't even get into your State U!

What a dolt.

They’re not fantastic. They’re just not.

Honestly, you have no clue, op. I doubt you have set foot on a single one of these campuses.

"prestigious" is in the eye of the beholder.
You do you.

But with a 11 -12% acceptance rate, you're not getting in. Sorry.

In US News order:

WashU
Emory
NYU
BU
Wake
Northeastern
Tulane

They are ALL great schools. They happen to be private ones.

Both my kids liked Wake- it is small but not too small, well maintained campus with lots of amenities and good sports in a good conference. Sometimes the huge state flagship doesn’t fit what they want

Why does everyone need to go to a bar? Not everyone on here is a 20 something. -DP

Are you saying parents of students who attend those schools, or parents of private high school students contemplating applying to these schools?
