GG at least gave the staff decent raises for the first time in years. And he gave us our now taken away telework that was effective and the staff sorely misses but PA won’t reinstate. And allowed for a two hour dismissal prior to holidays that PA for some reason thinks is stupid and won’t do even though OPM has issued guidance saying it’s ok.

It’s not really about kissing the staff’s butt. It’s the fact that there are little things he could be doing that he chooses not to. It sends a message. Sure, it could be a lot worse and everyone appreciates that it’s not. But we should also be able to call the issues like we see them.

So far they appear completely incapable of managing the agency.

And now that DOGE is gone, the Chairman is the target of staff’s ire. Maybe he doesn’t understand that running around saying staff is overpaid, benefits are too generous and they will never get telework back while he’s there isn’t going to inspire staff to work overtime to get anything done. Everyone will do their jobs for 8 hours per day. But anyone who has been around long enough knows any serious rulemaking requires people working many more hours than 40 per week. Good luck with that, Chairman.

When did DOGE leave?

Because anyone worth a damn doesnt want spend 8 - 12 hours a day in a crappy government windowless office pouring over contracts and IT crap and org charts for 1/10 of what they could be making elsewhere, for little or no thanks. Plus, if I were doge, I’d be super pissed that I was doing the work that MANAGEMENT was and is supposed to be doing all along.

Thanks. I asked WHEN they left, not why they left.

Anyone know when they left?

I subconsciously read “why” instead of “when” bc no reasonable person would care WHEN they left. You want a date and time? Who cares?

Because I don't need that information, I already know why and it should be obvious to everyone.

I’m curious if it was before or after they decided to do a total reorg of OIT.

PA basically announced the OIT reorg in his 7.5 minute "welcome" speech. DOGE just provided some legwork.

He doesn’t even have to give us the 1% if he doesn’t want to. Don’t assume we are getting anything. And we know we have $$ if they keep our funding flat through CRs.

The gall of the husband of an heiress who has probably never had to worry about childcare, dinner, saving for college etc saying that staff are overpaid. Does he have no idea how much of a prick he comes across? And yes NP here and I have also heard from a very credible source that he has disdain towards staff.

I feel bad for him then. Why would a 60-plus yo who has plenty of money waste his time leading an org whose people he had no respect for? What a waste of retirement. Play golf. Hang with grandkids.

Having said that, townhalls are stupid. Waste of time. So wouldn’t draw conclusions from that.

What’s he going to allocate money toward then? Desks? The whole org is based on PEOPLE! It’s not a factory.

Town halls may be a "waste of time" but they show a modicum of effort and are just about the only vehicle to ask questions to the chair's office. I heard there is a huge surplus because of all the VERA departures and IT cuts. Apparently, he doesn't understand why any govt agency would have student loan repayment programs. The guy is out of touch. I did hear we are getting a gym because his staff wants one.

This is spot on. The lack of raises for the next 4 years will make a major dent in pensions, matching contributions etc. All of those things might seem like being overpaid to him but most employees chose this over higher paying jobs for the flexibility he illegally took away.

All from a guy who is worth $350M, most of which came from his wife’s family.

That’s sad then. Nothing better to do than nit pick personnel ratios and magazine subscriptions? The break-even period for the effort is like 200 years.

I doubt he said this. And the union has zero credibility, as far as I’m concerned. All they do is whine and collect dues but never get results.

To the extent he did say something like this, he probably meant that the lawyers and accountants and other highly educated professionals should be paid MORE, while many other positions are grossly overpaid (given that they’d be lucky to get 60 percent of what they make here anywhere in the private sector).

I’ve heard that he did say the staff are overpaid from both union and non union sources. Who really knows though? It’s not like he is announcing his disdain for our pay scale during a town hall meeting.
