It’s way too early to be day drinking!

He went to one middle school dance with a girl and enjoyed it. 8th grade he could not find anyone to go with.

What can I do if anything? I've suggested he just ask some people what their plans are - but he won't do that.

Does he have a girl cousin around his age or little older?

Would be the talk of the school and a stud if he showed up with a HS girl who is his "out of town gf" if she'd play along with the ruse.

WTAF?!

I did something similar to this (minus the sporting event) with DS and his friends for their first HC. I think they were all afraid to say they wanted to go and didn't want to go alone without knowing if their friends would be there. I told them all that I was having pizza at my house and would drop them all off together if they wanted to go. Or they could just come for pizza and go back home (they all went to the dance). It went from "no one was going" to 12 kids at my house before the dance. Sometimes I think they just need to know that they aren't going to walk in alone. They all had a great time.

Leave him alone. Either he is going to figure it out or he won't. Regardless this is something that he needs to deal with on his own. This is a preview for the rest of his life.

Why would anyone do that?

It’s not uncommon for schools to have rules about who students can bring as a guest.

Step out of the 1950s movie…kids today literally don’t give a crap about OP’s freshman son’s date or lack thereof….unless, maybe everyone finds out he’s dating his cousin,
