So far it's been a great decision for him. He's doing well in all of his classes. Tested out of 2 levels of Calc as well as Chem so is only doing Chem lab. He'll hit the ground running next semester and will take more credits.
That’s how our second year engineer student did it last year (although partially due to an issue with placement).
