That's not an effective strategy. Even if the National Guard identifies someone with severe mental health issues, there wouldn't be a legal basis for involuntary confinement in a mental health facility. They'd just get released the next day.
You don't seem to be interested in real solutions, just MAGA-style politics.

The killer in this case had previously called 911 begging for help.

This incident was only widely reported after Twitter outrage that major media outlets had not picked up on it. I’m glad it’s being covered now.
I read that her family does not want her returned to Ukraine, but rather buried here in the United States. I found that so heartbreaking.
Another murder that I’m not sure if it’s being widely reported, because it’s local to us, is Dacara Thompson. Both are complete tragedies and senseless murders.
There are almost 50 murders a day in America. Most are not going to get nationwide coverage unless there's something particularly "newsworthy" about it--i.e, it is particularly brutal, has unusual details (e.g., the kinky sex/au pair angles of the local murder of Christine Banfield), involves a certain combination of races of the victim and perpetrator, or feeds a specific political narrative. What about the Thompson murder do you think merits nationwide attention given the high number of daily murders in America?
I see your point. I’m not sure why it felt big to me. Maybe because she was a pretty young teenager and he’s an ugly middle aged man. Honestly, yes, the racial aspect felt significant to me to merit wider publication, and that was before I learned of his illegal status AND Gov. Moore’s statement. Just my two cents.
Sadly, they’re too many murders to report them all.
I keep thinking about your question as to why I thought this merited national coverage and I think it’s because as a Latina I’m hyper aware of incidents involving Latinos, in which case this was. Negative events feel very big to me.

Also, there was nothing to prepare others for the stabbing. There was no verbal interaction between them or fight, so others could pay attention and mentally somehow prepare or have time to react. It was unprovoked and very fast.

That actually didn’t happen. The people in her section got up and walked away as she collapsed. It took about 1 1/2 minutes before a man from the other side of the train came over and tried to help her.
It takes time for people to process. I was witness to a woman slipping and falling in a lobby of a building, it was full of people, and there was a lag, until one person ran over to ask if she’s ok, and after that others started also to offer help.
This was more dramatic, faster, and more dangerous. If there was one person who acted quickly, others would have reached out, but it takes time to go into action and to know what actually to do.
But yes, it’s shocking to see inaction on video.

The guy that stabbed that poor girl was evil, and what he did was horrific. Insane would be if he tried to stab a moving train, murder imaginary elves, or attacked a group of 40 bodybuilders. He is a predator who purposely waited for prey that was smaller, weaker, and more vulnerable than himself. He knew exactly what type of person he was looking to kill, and he waited until one that fit his standard gave him a chance. That isn't insane, he is just plain evil
His behavioral history even before this horrific video represents what we used to call insanity, and he would have been in a mental institution for life. The video shows his agitation and rocking back and forth just before he stands up and stabs her--someone whom he had never met and who did not engage with him. It is beyond absurd (insanity!) that anyone thinks he should be walking around freely, homeless, not taking meds, riding public transportation,, etc. His own mother and sister are afraid of him.
