as a european i am shocked that more americans ARENT freaking out right now. I think it's because they haven't grown up in a place where the remnants and history of the ramifications of extremism are so widespread, and perhaps they think they have the luxury of 'not thinking about it that much'. But truly, this is a code red situation and i would completely understand anyone wanting to talk about it a LOT. If op doesn't it could come across as that they aren't smart enough to see the bigger picture, or have very different concerns. I mean - we're living in the most extreme time in american history. If dh was like 'i dont want to talk about it' i would question his ability to grasp that fact.

If you have nothing else to do in your pathetic life other than typing up illiterate crap about the Anti Anerican Dictator, feel free to do so in the Political forum. Daily, if you like.

DC is the most screwed up place for political thinking. For the most part, people in this area think they are more politically astute simply because of their proximity to the seat of government. This could not be further from the truth. The fact is, because people are so close and usually only a few degrees away from the federal government, that they are MUCH LESS KNOWLEDGEABLE about government. Let me explain. Their political knowledge is based on theory and political ideology. Their own finances are tied to government money. They literally have no other industry that supports them. (with a few exceptions of course). The rest of the country is tied to local economies that have value based on the goods or services that they produce (automotive, technology, hospitality, furniture, farming, etc....). As a result, they are directly impacted by the policies and trade agreements set forth by DC. Because of this, they are much more aware of what these policies mean for them and the industries they support and that support them.
Basically speaking, our prosperity in DC is built on the backs of everyone else in this country. The people of this region are not much more than welfare recipients of the rest of the country, and honestly, your opinions are the lease valid of anyone else's in this country. It's funny how you don't realize your own stupidity and ignorance.
As a result, we have fools breaking up with their spouses and lovers over something that they know very little about. You don't see this happening most other places.

OH BS right now a Dictator con man is being enabled by the Anti American Republican party that is a huge huge deal! We are about to lose our right to vote forever!

Did you forget to take your meds today? You sound unhinged.

I'm sorry, OP.

It sounds like either there's a different reason he's not articulating (to himself or you), or he's so obsessive about politics he really can't see himself living with someone who doesn't share that passion. At least he didn't string you along for years.

The silver lining is that at least you are now free to find someone more congenial!

Big hugs.

How is your right to vote threatened. Sounds like your just repeating what you've been told.

These liberal idiots can't even articulate what rights they are about to loose. How on God's green earth are you about to lose your right to vote?! This is the hysteria of the left that oozes out of DC.

He could probably tell and didn’t feel like you were adding anything substantial to conversations. A pp is right; he might be a good match for you, but you aren’t for him. You deserve someone who is nuts about you.

Better to break it off early if you aren't a compatible match. Your "indulging" of him now will tire and eventually you'll stop, and he will get annoyed and youll both be resentful.

Maybe try focusing on compatibility going forward. Just because you vote the same doesn't mean you have the same views on everything and goals for the future.

I suspect that this is about more than politics, but it is convenient shorthand for him. But it is also possible that just voting the same way isn't enough for him and he wants more visible activism and that's a bummer for OP, but a good enough reason to break up, too.

I'm sorry, OP. In the end, he did you a favor – if he doesn't love you for who you are, he's not the right guy. I know it doesn't feel like it now.

Bingo, I'm assuming OP isn't hysterical enough for her BF so he dumped her.

This personality type is present on both sides of the political divide. Everything is an emergency and you have to buy into their mental illness 1000% otherwise you're part of the problem. If you stayed with this guy, you would watch your circle of family and friends grow ever smaller until you're surrounded only by true believers. Which is basically equivalent to joining a cult or ultra orthodox religious sect. Believe me OP you dodge a massive bullet, this dude in 10 years will be a shut-in yelling at his TV every night with questionable hygiene and no social life.
