For your front loader, leave the door open, AND also leave open the drawer where you pour liquid detergent. Have had a front loader for over 15 wars and have never had a problem.

Unscented laundry detergent, All Free & Clear, and nothing else. I cannot stand the chemical smells from all the fragrance

I can't believe in this day and age that people still use scented detergent and those disgusting scent booster beads - what is wrong with people???

We had a front loader in our old house and I also kept the door open all the time when not in use (and not just cracked open, WIDE open). We had laundry in the basement so had a lot of space. Every few weeks, I cleaned the gasket with bleach and then ran a cleaning cycle to ensure the bleach was rinsed out. We still had mold. I'll never buy a front loader again. I was so relieved to see that our new house had a brand new top loader. I don't care that it uses more water, it cleans my clothes and it stays clean itself.

Because I don’t want my clothes to smell like mold? It sounds counterintuitive to use free and clear but I will try it.

The best way to keep your clothes from smelling like mold is to get rid of the mold, OP.

I leave the door open all the time, but it's about 10 years old and there is quite a bit of mold in the front gasket that I just can't get off anymore. We are about to just buy a new one and it will be a top loader. It's a shame because otherwise it works great still.

I don't think scented detergent is the answer, though. I use Kirkland free and clear and no fabric softener and I just keep cleaning that gasket best I can. Wipe it down between every load and use a cleaner designed for mold. If you use those too often, though, it will break down the rubber on the gasket.

You can have the gasket replaced instead of buying a new one!
