I think so too. I have once written a card to my MIL thanking her for raising such a great son (my DH). I am sure she did not feel that I was treating her like an incubator.

Anyways, I would liked to be thanked for giving birth to great kids. I even make my DH thank me! LOL!!

I think OP is determined to take offense and nothing her ILs can say or do will not offend her. I feel bad for the family when such toxic women come into the family. They destroy all the peace and goodwill.

OP you really sound like you don't like them. I really hope you didn't share your opinion w their son.

PS, you put your life at risk every time you try to bring a human into the world. They are saying happy birthday, complimenting you, complimenting your kids- what's the problem here.

Anonymous wrote:How would you take this handwritten inscription in a bday card from your in-laws (I’m the DIL):

“Happy birthday to the wonderful daughter in law who’s given us 3 beautiful grandchildren. “

We are cordial, friendly but not close.

This just rubbbed me the wrong way, makes me feel like I’m simply a means to furthering their family line. Would’ve preferred just a generic “happy birthday!”

Would you be bothered?

Dear lord, no. They call you wonderful and thank you for having gifted them with joy. They’re obviously horrible people.

A guy would get the card go oh look happy birthday. No cash? Oh well. And toss it in the trash and never give it another thought.

Some do. My mom is like this. Every day she finds something to be upset or offended over. She's the definition of glass half empty. She automatically thinks the negative in any situation.

What a beautiful card to a total narcissist. They need to grey rock you.

Note the word "wonderful".

My MIL of 15 years cannot be bothered to know when my birthday is, so I’d be thrilled with a card.

Completely benign. You’re getting upset over nothing.

This sounds like something my mom would send in a card. From her, it wouldn’t be passive aggressive at all, but her DILs (and SIL) know she appreciates them for a multitude of reasons. Perhaps your MIL doesn’t show appreciation for you outside of your children?

This sounds fine OP, I see nothing to be offended about and they say you are wonderful.

Did you also get some tools to fix your truck? If so then maybe there's something to be miffed about.

Honest question. Do women look for ways to be unhappy?

My MIL texted me last night to blame Democrats like me for murdering Charlie Kirk. I'd prefer a bday card like OP got!
