Her father spent time in Argentina when he was growing up because his father (Hillary's grandfather) did some business in Argentina. So, one could guess that Hillary may have been called "Hilaria" by her father -- someone who was fluent in Spanish. And if she liked it better -- then who cares. I have a SIL who grew up as "Kathy" but in the last 10-15-ish years she was calling herself "Kate." Whatever.

Hilary/Hilaria has some legit connection to Spanish in her household.

Her childhood friends and early 20s yoga co-workers have reported that she was never called Hilaria until in her mid 20s she took a trip to Spain. When she returned, she announced that she now wanted to be called Hilaria. Her parents did not call her that. The fake accent started soon after.

There is a funny video of her mother, a doctor, talking about her 2 adult children and she says her son's name and when she gets to her daughter, her voice gets caught and she has trouble saying her name, because she wants to say Hillary, but pauses as she knows Hillary wouldn't like that. She chokes out "and...pause...Hi-Hi...laria". You can tell her mom hates that dumb name.

Hilaria was doing the ballroom competition dancing when she was college age and still going by Hilary, so that is why she is listed as Hillary Hayward-Thomas in the competition standings.

Nice try. None of that makes you forget how to say cucumber when you are born and raised in the USA with your ancestors on the Mayflower and attended a hoity toity prep school in Boston. None of that would result in a fake Spanish accent and opting to use what might be perceived as a more professional version of your name is not the same as changing it to a different ethnicity or cultural identity.

I feel this, because people used to say "Oh, Kristi Yamaguchi is one thing, as long as they don't have actual ice dancers who did ballroom dances on ice." Then they started inviting ice dancers. People were ok with boy banders with some dance experience, then some celebs had ballet and modern experience, and people said "well, as long as they aren't trained in ballroom." Now they have a ballroom dancer who competed at Blackpool.
