At our HS, they have strict deadlines for transcripts. If you want them sent by Nov 1, you need to submit the request by Sept 24. I think an Oct 15 deadline had a Sept 10th transcript request deadline. They won't likely be sent early unless you specifically state it is rolling admissions (has a check box on the form). Just like the fact that the teachers don't often upload the letters of rec until Oct 30. Ask me how I know.

Also, to the poster above--Michigan State and Penn State aren't rolling until after all their deadlines (i.e. late admissions). They have regular Nov 1 deadlines for EA.

What does they mean?

It means that my child requested transcripts be sent over the weekend and they are sending them.

Great. I'm glad for you. My child requested transcripts be sent over two weeks ago and was just told they won't be sent until October. And my child didn't even take any online classes

It's starting to sound like maybe youre lying.

Agreed. Or the counselor miss typed. Or the OP didn’t read the email correctly

I’m telling you so that you know it’s not an FCPS policy and so you can contact someone to push back. If you actually do have a senior trying to apply to college then you can contact an administrator or person at gatehouse or an ombudsman. If you don’t have a senior and are just trying to upset people or you do and just want to vent and be mad I wish you well.

What am I missing about listing. Isn’t it a who cares whether online or in school or is it known taking online is easier? And if known, known by who? Admissions? Students? If taking an AP class, shouldn’t it be same no matter where take or is it “known” to take calc BC with vendor XYZ to get easier grade?

They are sending transcripts and are also not listing the courses that were taken online.

Anonymous wrote:This is actually great news! FCPS is changing the transcripts to show that classes were taken online. Finally those who take the easy way out on APs are exposed!

Kids at IB schools that want to take AP might only be able to take the online option.

With the new information presented later in this thread that yes you can get transcripts before October, just the former version, I do think this is faux rage. But Is your kid actually applying somewhere this early with rolling admissions? is a ridiculous question! Many students apply to: Penn State, Michigan State, hundreds of other schools. And, gasp, beyond the State of Virginia. The earlier you apply, it increases your chances of acceptance. Apply early when there are more available spots in the class. There's better financial aid and housing opportunities. Applications open in August.

One of her mantras is that the best preparation for admission is “the best grades in the most challenging courses available to you.”

It all comes down to the question about if online APs are the same (or possibly) better than in-person APs. This is up for debate.

If the AO views an online AP class is the same as the in-person class, than it doesn’t matter. If the AO views online class is inferior AND the in-person class was available at your school, then the applicant did not take “the most challenging course available to you.”

Dean J is not reliable.
