People dramatically overestimate the weather differences. You need to go much further south to get a marked difference in the weather.

Also, many kids would rather be in the heart of a major city vs 15 miles from a mid-sized city.

Not true. Visited them back to back in late March. Penn was cold and dreary - kids still trudging to class in their LL Bean winter gear. Duke was bright and sunny with flowers blooming, girls in sundresses, basketball enthusiasm. This is made even more clear by the beautiful campus at Duke with quads, gardens, green spaces, consistent architectural feels on both campuses, etc. vs. urban Penn which has areas that feel like cold war Russia.

Plenty happening on campus at Duke that you don't need a city. And the Triangle provides enough activity to be sufficient.

Penn’s alumni network is unmatched if you are going to NYC and is strong on the West Coast as well (much better than Duke in these areas).

Not for all areas of finance in NYC. Those alumni networks are strong but much smaller.
Not sure "Penn’s alumni network is unmatched". Princeton and Dartmouth alumni networks are very strong.

Both excellent choices. Freshly back from drop-off from a peer school and I’m reminded just how dynamic and impressive these campuses and students are. I remember feeling the exact same way during Duke and Penn tours. Any kid would be lucky to be at either. I’d choose based on minor fit preferences like location, sports, etc.

100% I want my kid to get a degree from Penn and have an esteemed career like Trump

Penn is very narrow and always was a 2nd tier Ivy. They are fortunate there’s Brown and Cornell. There’s no HYP allure at Penn. Easy choice go to Duke and have a well rounded great 4 years.

My DS was deciding between both last year and picked Duke, felt the undergrad experience was better at Duke

I've never once heard anyone confuse U Penn with Penn State. I do think I'd get tired of people asking if I went to Wharton.

Duke offers so much more than mid-level Ivy Penn.
