The IRS lost my SSN to a hack years ago.

There are different levels of exposure of data. Failing to secure SSN data on a laptop that goes missing is exposure, and the IRS would write you about that, even though perhaps the laptop was just thrown away and no exposure occurerd.

What the NYT is describing today is DOGE putting all our data on a publicly accessible server. That means millions of people could have downloaded your data. Sleep tight.

The statement was "the main reason Elon wanted to run DOGE is so he could steal all of our information". I'm not disputing that certain info is valuable to certain companies. That doesn't mean that Elon intentionally wanted that position to get information. Elon has never said he wanted the job to get info, nor has he implied it. If someone is going to make a statement with such a bold claim, then at least back it up.

I think the main reason Elon wanted to run DOGE is to shut down the many government investigations into Elon and his companies.

Whether he actually intends to exploit Americans’ personal data, or if he was merely careless and indifferent to the ramifications (like when he fired air traffic controllers, nuclear workers, weather forecasters, etc. - Oops!), allowing it to be vulnerable to exploitation by others, I have no idea. I do wonder how vulnerable he is if his data is also compromised, but presumably he has backup security measures to protect himself.

In the vast majority of cases you can't.

They will have to redo the entire system.

Maybe this was done on purpose as a way to kill social security. That's what the GOP has been wanting to do for a while now.
