parent square bought remind. MCPS didn't have a choice there.

They had a chance to send out a message in early August giving parents a heads up about Parent Square, instead of the message they did send in August trying to excuse their failures on background checks.

They've been sending out messages via ParentSquare since October 2024.

Okay? This is the first time I've heard of it or needed to download the app.

I'm just saying they've been sending messages on the platform for 10 months, and the messages have a View in ParentSquare button at the bottom, along with links to download the app if you so choose.

I don't click on random links in emails nor do I scroll down to the bottom of the numerous emails sent that are just MCPS promoting itself.

And yet you’ll be a parent claiming MCPS didn’t tell you. You’re a perfect illustration of why things are sent multiple times in multiple different ways.

It's called email

And yet ask any member of the school system and they can tell you how often they e-mail parents, or call parents and get crickets. Or e-mail info to parents and then are accused of the system never reaching out.

If you have multiple kids in the system you are going to get multiple communications, unless you go in an change your notification settings.

I don't understand - do the apps automatically force parents to respond? How is the current system any better than using regular emails?

Nothing is going to force someone to respond until the thing matter to them. This is called multiple methods of communication. The goal being to get the message out in a variety of ways because different people use and pay attention to different things on different systems.

The same way a concert could be advertised on different social media channels, plus an artist webpage, plus the venue webpage and calendar, plus on tv.

So while it’s annoying to you, imagine how annoying it is for the people who do all of this and still have people say they didn’t know.

Our school is still using Remind. Parent Square doesn't even list the right grade for my kids, and neither has any classes listed. This week all messages from this school have come through Remind. As far as I can tell, I need the Remind app and not the Parent Square app for school messages -- and the MCPS messages seem to be just about self-promotion and not about providing helpful info.

+1,000,000

Why do we need all these apps again? Sometimes I get docs in ParentVue, sometimes in Remind, I also just got notifications from Canvas and MySchoolBucks or whatever the lunch money app is called.

Correct.

Because people tune out when there is excessive contact.

You can retrain your brain once you are aware of that. Take 5 min a day to skim MCPS emails.

Thinking back to the days when the teacher would give everyone a piece of paper to put in their school bags for their parents.

Because there are 8 different touch points/methods of communication and you never know which one to check. If everything was in one place then this wouldn’t be a problem.
