Also, acceptance rate is just one piece of the puzzle. You also need to look, as available, at the stats (e.g., test scores, GPAs, etc.) of admitted students. University X may have a higher acceptance rate than University Y, but if it's applicant pool is on average of higher caliber, it could nevertheless be more difficult to gain admission to it than University Y.

My kid got into VT engineering, in state competitive public NoVa HS. 4.0 UW, 4.4 weighted, 11 AP, 3DE: MV, DE, LA, and 1510 SAT.

Also in for engineering OOS at UMich, Penn State, Ohio State, UF. WL at UVA engineering and never got off.

Strange statement. VT isn't "mid" at other subjects at all. It's got a great reputation, and not just in engineering.

Not true for business either. My ds was waitlisted and never moved from waitlist for VT, but was admitted to the honors college at JMU.

Vt publishes all kinds of data by major and demographics, go look it up.

What they don't publish is GPA/test scores by school or college.

My one kid goes to TJ. The acceptance odds for VT are not great for it and really random looking when you go to Naviance.

My other kid goes to a solid but “mid tier” FCPS HS - oddly lots more green check marks in naviance and less of a random pattern to who is in vs rejected. I don’t think VT is a fan of magnet programs.

It seems to me they don’t like being considered a safety and like to yield protect. So they deny kids who seem overqualified for the school. I know multiple kids who got in to “better” schools and denied at Tech.

They say right on their website that they do not yield protect.

You people have to get over the AI announcement. The first read used to be by two humans. It is now by one human and one AI. They even decreased the differential between the two scores needed to trigger an additional review by another human. Your kid is not being assessed and rejected by AI.

Fairly wide range. My daughter took 10 but it was on the high end in that group. I would say 6-7 was about average. But they did take mostly honors classes otherwise, none were TO, and I am sure most, if not all, had at least around a 4.0 weighted GPA.

I don’t think 57% is “extremely” high. High, but not a shoo-in for a lot of students. Use of Naviance/Scoir would be important.
