Come back in a few months and the scores will vary widely because they tweaked their methodology again. The best way to keep getting attention is to change the ratings periodically.

I mean, if you viewed the score more as a range of +/- 1, the list is fairly close to how most honest people would rank the schools.

It's fine if you like the external validation, but most know there's no reason to rank West Springfield much higher than Robinson, Lewis much higher than Falls Church, etc.

And sometimes the variations from ranking to ranking are greater than +/-1.

I find that very very hard to believe for West Springfield.

Exactly and won’t differ that much from other sources, then why the outrage against GS?

What I did when trying to sort through this was look at GS, niche, and USNWR. There are some schools consistently ranked near the top on all 3 and that's where we focused our efforts.

That is likely due to much lower scores now thst the school is fully under the new admissions process. TJs national merit scholars dropped by almost half of what they usually are. It was a very significant and stark difference between the old admissions system and the new, so it is not at all surprising that TJ is no longer a 10

I’m the PP.

No, dropping TJ to a 9 happened in 2023; that was the last year TJ was rated number 1 in the USA by USNWR.

The reason “Great Schools” cited at the time was their now-defunct equity rating. Apparently TJ was not “equity” enough for “Great Schools,” even though TJ was and is over 80% minority.

Now it’s back to a 10, while USNWR dropped TJ to 14, and it’s about to fall much further down the list this month.

GreatSchools is and always will be meaningless because parents will apply their preconceived notions regardless.

Only a couple years ago Woodson and Madison were
a 6/10 (they were getting heavily penalized for their low-income test scores), and posters said to ignore the 6, that GS is flawed and wrong.
But TJ drops down in rank? Must be true now that they're letting in all the "equity" kids. TJ is back up to 10? Must be flawed no way the equity kids are actually better ranked than other cohorts.

Sorry to break it to you but GSs currently lists TJ as a 10.

Isn’t great schools integrated into Zillow listings?

So, I guess it’s rabid parents on this site, plus anyone who uses Zillow to find a home. I guess that might be a few more people. 🤣🤣🤣

DP. It’s cute that you are so invested in your school’s GS rating.

I don’t care about it, but PP (you?) pretends that it’s just a few people on DCUM rather than tens of millions of people on Zillow that use those ratings. Don’t embarrass yourself, cutie. 😉

Not the PP to whom you're referring, but you're obviously invested in these ratings to a degree that would embarass most people with any critical thinking skills. So either you're an exception or, more likely, just not in this category.

Or, just hear me out, I’m a casual peruser of Zillow, and know how to read a number. Literally all I said was that they have great schools on Zillow, so more people care than just DCUM posters. Like almost verbatim that message.

I haven’t come anywhere close to weighing in on the merits of great schools, and you have zero clue whether I think the methodology is flawed. So please tell us again about critical thinking skills. 🙃
