Do the parents at CCES know this is going on? They’ve been pretty vocal at times in the past.

It sounds like the principal does not have the time for the job, to the detriment of the teachers, staff members, and students. Thatbis a real shame, because CCES was once a great school and teacher recruitment and retention was not an issue, despite issues parents had with the former principal.

I pick up substitute jobs there sometimes and it's really interesting to hear behind the scenes information that teachers and staff talk about. From what I've overheard there is really no clear communication between the principal and teachers and the principal there is really gone all the time. I don't know if this is still conversation from last year when she wasn't here, but each time I was there I didn't see her at all either. The kids are also just completely disrespectful to teachers and substitutes. I hesitate to go back but I need the money and the jobs are easy to pick up.

I did not think the prior principal was effective at interacting with parents, but I appreciated that she seemed to create a positive environment for teachers and staff. It’s disheartening to see so many talented teachers leave at the end of the first school year with the new principal. A certain amount of turnover is to be expected, but this is a very high level and to me points to problems with the leadership at the school.

I also work for MCPS (and used to work at CCES). There are a lot of things that are MCPS-wide frustrations, but having strong and present admin makes a big difference. Teachers and other school staff stay where they feel appreciated and where leadership puts in the work to keep the school running effectively. I do hope things improve at CCES, there are some really talented teachers still there.

How were they advocating for students?

My kid has one of the new teachers for a part of the day and absolutely loves her. Kid actually seems excited about the material!

Do teachers really just up and leave when a principal has family issues? That seems….odd. What would be their reason?
