The college student should have had to share the room with other cousins.

This. I think we all know what side wins.
I more enjoy the ins and outs.

It's about the brother still not being an equal even at 30- or 40-something. And he's less equal than a teenager! It's not about the rooms, it's presumptuous and dismissive that he was asked to defer at all.

Plus hurtful if dismissive didn't cover that.

They were at most an hour from the rental

I don't see why the college kid didn't shower before leaving home. I mean after 5 hours in a car I can feel grimy, but less than an hour? And if they are that close there was no need to get there early UNLESS the entire point was to get the better room for their college kid.
So, in this case, I wouldn't be blaming the college kid as much as I'd be blaming the parents since I suspect they orchestrated this.

Don't forget, they wanted to get their early to get the choice of the King bedrooms.

I need to know how old all the siblings kids were and if they were expected to share the rooms with their parents, or were there other "kid bedrooms" ?

I can't even imagine going on vacation with people so obsessed about picking a room, especially if it's basically the same as the other one.

You've never been the younger sibling who has be $hiit on I see!

LOL no, but I do go on a lot of group trips with friends and I can't even imagine engaging in this nonsense at all. Being this fixated on room selection feels like the equivalent of a 40 year old yelling "shotgun" to claim the front seat. If the rooms are about the same, who cares? The brother should have talked to the mom of the college kid and said "make sure we get the better option and tell her to go ahead and get settled in the other one." Did he need to do like a ceremonial choosing of the room to make sure it was fair?

And storing all of your vacation clothes for a week. And showering, changing kids into swimsuits, folding laundry mid week, putting all of your toiletries, getting a good nights rest (not just any rest, vacation rest)

She should’ve dropped her stuff in one of them and waited until everyone else arrived before calling it her home for the week. She sounds selfish and spoiled and if she had that attitude with me I’d tell her she can take the sofa.

Her parents probably forced her to get up at the crack of dawn to hurry up and wait at the house to make sure they got their first. As long as all the complaints are directed their way for causing this, then nobody else should care.
