Planning travel. Love finding a well done video tour or tips of a location I'm considering or will visit soon.

How to quilt. I found an amazing technical quilter who was able to help me understand the basics clearly and make my first full quilt in a week. I forgot her name, but she was youngish and came from a long line of quilters before her.

My husband is constantly sending me YouTube videos and I mostly ignore them.

Good for dishwasher and automotive repairs and that's about it. Things where there's something that needs to be visually demonstrated.

Most recently, how to make a bed with only flat sheets (like a hotel and no, I didn't know how to make a "hospital corner")

That you can take money from retirement penalty free once you are 55 and what "bracket packing" is for the sake of Roth conversions. And the pros of taking SSI at 62 if you have significant retirement savings b/c you HAVE to take deductions at 70-something.

Basically, I knew nothing about retirement, spent some time on you tube and now know I need to consult an expert. IRL.

I first discovered Khan Academy tutorials on YouTube. So I taught my kids most of HS and AP STEM subjects from learning from YT and then supplementing some more.

- Watch a lot of in-depth travel videos, geography, culture and history before I go for any international trip. I like to be very well informed about anything that I will see.
- We cook a lot, so a lot of my recipes especially for new cuisines come from YouTube. I have learned Korean cooking from Maangchi, and I can roll very professional looking sushi too. Kun Foods is my go to for North Indian/pakistani non-veg food. I have also learned how to make kimchi and also Indian pickles.
- How to do a lot of household, yard chores and household and car maintenance from youtube.
- Gardening. How to grow herbs and flowers. How to make a pollinator garden.
- Good smattering of Spanish and Turkish from youtube. Tried learning Tibetan alphabets.
- Customs, gift giving and other polite behavior of other cultures also before we have to attend any event in a multi-cultural place like DMV.
- Taught my kids absolutely top-notch proper table manners (which spoon/fol for what dish) from an etiquette expert on youtube.
- How to eat lobsters, crack crab etc. Also learned how to set a table, how to throw a proper British high tea, how to make cocktails, how to dehydrate fruits and veggies etc and how to store it.
- How to put on makeup, skincare, dye my hair, how to wax, how to make wax, how to give haircuts (especially during COVID).
- How to make serums, hair masks, skin masks, massage oils.
- Yoga, breathing exercises, weight training
- Vegan meals, healthy meals
- Lots about supplements, diet, fasting, health
- How to pray, meditate, astrology, numerology, rituals of my religion.
- Learned about various religions, War histories
- How to invest, how to grow money
- Lots of DIY and money saving tricks and hacks from a fabulous wedding planner for my DD's wedding
- How to decorate, how to make balloon towers etc for parties. How to organize events.
- Some sewing, knitting, painting, making cards. Not into crochet.
- How to groom small dogs.
- Investing, investing...more investing and financial planning
- How to best use AI tools

Regardless you need to train your algorithm to give you what you want and keep others from using your device.

I got a flood of motorcycle videos after DH used my device.

I’m a serious DIYer and YouTube is a godsend. I’ve made shelving units, made patios, done basic electrical and plumbing. I could go on and on.

Hemming corners on home-sewn cloth tablecloth and napkins.

My favorite is from when I fixed my washing machine several years ago. A bushing had gone out. Replacing it entailed removing the machine's housing, laying it down, laying on my back to partially dismantle the machine and replace the part. But I didn't use Youtube for that.

The problem came when I was trying to put the housing back on. You have this huge floppy piece of thin steel and it would NOT behave.

There was a video just for that. It was a guy whose 12 year old kid was recording and his basement was unfinished and had spiderwebs just like mine and he and his tools were grimy, and it was all about the trick you needed to use which involved using your feet in a certain way to get the floppy steel placed in the bottom front corners, and it worked.

I had used some others to diagnose the problem based in part on the noise the machine made. That's something you can't read.

I was shocked to see that my whole college Stength of Materials class is on Youtube. Explained much better than my prof did.
