Most people go to Thailand because it’s cheap yet feels fancy/exotic. Most enjoy the beaches and venture out to see something more cultural.

OP here and this is not me! I can say that I enjoyed the food, the people, and how much the country as a whole seems to love cats. My daughter loved the giant malls, and my son loved snorkeling.

OP here, and this is only my 3rd post. I'm not the poster who is bashing peoples' suggestions, so please keep them coming. Even the ones suggesting going to Cambodia area interesting, although I don't think we'll be able to go that route.

As for Thailand itself, there is a family reason why we're going there and as I said, we've been there once before. I'm just really looking to see what others have liked, and I'm sensing an elephant sanctuary theme, so I'm going to look into that (a real sanctuary, not one that has elephant rides because that's horrible). Beach time is already planned as well.

Yes I wouldn't take the land route to Siem Reap but I wouldn't recc that anyway. Flights and daily life have not been affected, so it's good to be aware but I'm not sure it changes anything.

We just did this flight from Siem Reap to Bangkok a few weeks ago and it was fine. I'd be surprised if either country does anything to affect tourism. It's just too important to their economies.

The flight was about 1.5 hours and pretty easy. The Siem Reap airport is about an hour from the temple, but is brand new and very modern. It was super easy to navigate. The Bangkok airport can be hard to get to with traffic, but is okay. Try to stay on a rail line instead of taking a taxi to avoid getting stuck in a massive traffic jam.

We were glad we went to see Siem Reap. You've already come so far to get to SE Asia, that it's not a big hop to go see a spectacular site.
