OP asked us to ask our sons about dorm pillows. Most boys would think their mothers were insane to broach this with them. The best advice for an incoming freshman parent is to drop the rope, which is pp’s advice in response to the OP.

There is nothing to learn here, except that. it. does. not. matter. Pick a pillow and cross it off your list. If your DS has pillow envy after being dropped off, cross that bridge when you get there.

Not always. mInd didn't. The rooms are so small that if they wanted to hang out they went to the common rooms on the floor. Also many dorms are suites now so they have living rooms.

Anyway, Pottery Barn has a simple wedge pillow that would work well if you have a kid who wants to use the bed as a place to sit or to read in bed.

My son has 1 regular pillow and a husband pillow. He’d never had one before and loves that thing.

My son has a husband pillow and loves it. If it's been stained, I guess he washed it, because it looks fine. :O
